Mumbai News: BMC advances plans for helipad at Worli jetty

Suitable site for helipad, says feasibility report.

Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has received a positive feasibility report confirming that Worli Jetty is suitable for converting into a helipad capable of accommodating medium-sized helicopters. Prepared by Pawan Hans Ltd., the report assessed the site’s structural integrity and logistical viability.

Clearances from multiple authorities required

With the feasibility study complete, BMC will now seek mandatory approvals from several regulatory bodies. These include administrative clearances from the Home Department, Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) for aviation safety and airspace compliance, and Coastal Regulation Zone (CRZ) Authority, due to the jetty's location in a sensitive coastal zone.

Temporary jetty to be upgraded

Originally constructed as part of the Coastal Road project, the temporary Worli Jetty, situated opposite Worli Dairy, was retained following a request from coastal police for surveillance operations. A second jetty, previously built near Amarsons Garden, has already been dismantled.
