Five years after issuing the tender, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) on Wednesday, set an October 2026 deadline for completing the missing link project between South Mumbai’s Mahalaxmi and Haji Ali. The new cable-stayed Road Over Bridge (ROB) along with a second flyover is now slated for completion by October 31, 2026. These projects aim to replace the century-old Mahalaxmi Bridge and improve traffic flow in the areas.

The two new bridges will provide better access between Mahalaxmi Station and Worli. Further this new structure on Keshavrao Khadye Road, will be BMC’s first cable-stayed flyover over railway tracks. It will connect Saat Rasta to Mahalaxmi Maidan via the Western Railway line, close to Mahalaxmi Railway Station.

Project details:

The bridge will stretch 803 metres in length and 17.2 metres in width, expanding to 23.01 metres within the railway boundaries. A key aspect of the cable-stayed bridge’s construction is the erection of a 78-metre-high pylon, which will take 200 days to complete. Work within the railway boundaries will be carried out in phases.

Meanwhile, the second bridge, linking Dr E Moses Road to Dhobi Ghat Road via Worli on the north side of the Mahalaxmi Station, will measure 639 metres in length. Both bridges are designed to feature four lanes and are part of a ₹745 crore project aimed at alleviating traffic bottlenecks.
