The Phase-1 trial run of Mumbai Metro Line 9, between Dahisar (East) and Kashigaon, was flagged off on Tuesday. The stretch is a pioneering double-decker project, integrating both a metro line and vehicular flyovers on a shared viaduct—a first in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR). The 4.4 km Phase-1 stretch covers four stations, namely, Dahisar (East), Pandurangwadi, Miragaon and Kashigaon. Line 9 is also the first-ever metro corridor in the Thane district.
Once fully operational, Metro Line-9 will connect Mira-Bhayandar to the following hubs in Mumbai hubs:
Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (via Lines 7 & 7A)
Andheri (West) (via Line 2B)
Ghatkopar (via Lines 7 & 1)
Link Road (via Line 2A at Dahisar East)
Future extensions will link to:
Thane (via Line-10 at Miragaon)
Vasai-Virar (via the proposed Line-13)
Metro Line-9 is designed with sustainability in mind. By easing congestion at key bottlenecks like the Dahisar Toll Naka and encouraging a shift from cars to public transport, the line will help cut down on vehicular emissions. It also features energy-efficient systems such as regenerative braking, making it a greener, smarter way to travel across the Mumbai Metropolitan Region.
