To address the need for fire stations in the eastern suburbs, the Mumbai Fire Brigade (MFB) will construct two new stations - a main station in Kanjurmarg and a mini station in Ghatkopar. The new stations will be equipped with a larger fleet of fire engines and tankers, enabling faster response times.

Currently, MFB has one main fire station between Vikhroli and Mulund and four other in the eastern suburbs, including one each in Vidyavihar and Sion.

Upgraded Kanjurmarg Fire station

At present, Kanjumarg has one mini fire station which will be upgraded and reconstructed into the main station on an area of 3,000 square meters. As per officials, the upgraded version will possess two administrative building and a tower for carrying out drills. A centre will be developed for storage of fuel and logistics along with accommodation facilities for firemen.

The approximate budget for this project is ₹15 crores and tenders for the same have already been floated. If all goes according to plan, this fire station will be ready to go by 2024.

Besides this, a list pertaining to lands reserved for a fire station is being prepared to ensure construction of adequate number of fire stations in Mumbai.
