In a significant development affecting thousands of daily commuters, the Mumbai exit of the Yashwantrao Chavan Mumbai-Pune Expressway in Panvel will be closed for six months starting February 11. The closure, announced by Navi Mumbai traffic authorities, is necessary for the construction of a new flyover and underpass at Kalamboli Circle.

Key road closures & reroutes—

The Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC) has implemented this round-the-clock restriction as part of their Kalamboli Junction improvement project. To keep traffic moving, alternative routes have been provided by the authorities. Vehicles heading towards Panvel, Goa, and JNPT will be diverted at Konfata and redirected through Palspe Circle onto National Highway-48. Similarly, traffic from Pune to Mumbai will be rerouted via the Panvel-Sion Highway.

Deputy Commissioner Tirupati Kakade, who issued these orders under the Motor Vehicle Act, assured that the completion of this project would resolve the longstanding congestion issues at Kalamboli Circle. The closure affects all vehicles, including heavy transport, travelling towards Panvel, Mumbra, and JNPT. Until then, commuters are advised to plan their routes accordingly!
