Mumbai has been named the happiest city in Asia for 2025, according to Time Out's annual survey. The ranking, based on responses from over 18,000 residents across the continent, measured factors like culture, food, and overall quality of life.

Beijing and Shanghai closely follow in the rankings

With 94% of Mumbaikars declaring that the city brings them joy, Mumbai has claimed the top spot, showcasing a unique fusion of ambition and community spirit.

Despite its famously fast-paced lifestyle and crowded trains, residents find happiness in life’s simpler pleasures; whether it’s unwinding by the sea at Marine Drive or savoring a vada pav from a street cart. The city’s vibrant social scene and endless entertainment options help sustain this infectious positive energy.

Beijing and Shanghai secured the second and third spots, with 93% and 92% of locals reporting happiness, respectively. Chiang Mai and Hanoi completed the top five, both excelling in community positivity. Mumbai's win underscores the city's ability to thrive amidst its hustle, with an emotionally resilient spirit that keeps its residents living, laughing, and loving every moment.
