Mumbai Weather | Sunshine returns, But IMD issues Yellow Alert for Monday

The city’s weather is set to stay fickle and unpredictable this week.

After a soggy weekend that left several areas waterlogged, Mumbai woke up to clear skies and sunshine on Monday. But the relief might be short-lived, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow alert for the city today, predicting moderate rain and thunderstorms later in the day.

According to the IMD, daytime temperatures are expected to hover around 33–34°C, while nights may cool down to 25–26°C.

Unseasonal rains to persist across Mumbai and Konkan

The unseasonal rain, triggered by active systems over the Arabian Sea and Bay of Bengal, is likely to continue across Mumbai, Thane, Palghar, and other parts of Konkan till October 27 accompanied with gusty winds.

While the downpours slowed traffic, they also brought a silver lining, improved air quality. Mumbai’s AQI stood at 52 on Monday morning, a significant drop from the poor levels seen after Diwali, offering residents some much-needed respite from haze and pollution.

So, while Mumbaikars may enjoy a brief spell of sunshine, umbrellas should stay handy, the city’s weather remains moody and unpredictable this week.
