Mumbai’s restaurant scene has slipped into one of its wonderfully unpredictable moods, the sort where chefs seem to reinvent themselves overnight and neighbourhoods wake up to a new signboard that appears to have materialised from thin air.

In this steady swirl of reinvention, Bandra has welcomed its latest addition, The Penang Table, a Malaysian-inspired bistro with a sunny personality and an assured sense of comfort. So if you are wondering where to head next for a relaxed meal with a touch of imagination on the plate, here is why The Penang Table deserves your attention.

Malaysia, but Mumbai style

At The Penang Table, Chef Mitesh Rangras and his team lean hard into Malaysia’s culinary DNA, working with ingredients like lemongrass, pandan, galangal, turmeric, tamarind and candlenut. The classics stay classic, but the plating and pace gently steer the cuisine into urban Bombay dining territory. As for the interiors, imagine a brightly coloured space washed in natural sunlight, lifted by statement chandeliers and spread across a 34,000 sq ft layout.

Food, drinks & desserts

The Penang Table shines through dishes like the Nattu Kozhi Rasam (₹370), the Tender Coconut and Avocado Salad (₹495), the Sambal Chicken Roti John (₹475) and the standout Roti Sarang (₹450). From the grill, the Ayam Penyet (₹550), Sarawak Salmon Sashimi (₹650) and Ikan Bakar (₹650) carry bold flavour with ease, while the Lamb Rendang (₹765) keeps things slow-cooked and soulful. Drinks such as Jungle Fire (₹950) and Kopi-O (₹950) bring a fresh citrusy lift, and desserts like Tropical Sin (₹495) and Dark Chocolate Passion (₹550) finish the meal with bright, indulgent notes.

Knock Knock

Because Mumbai loves a new flavour story and Malaysian food rarely gets the main-character moment it deserves. The Penang Table gives it the full leading role, with the signature swag of Bandra and we can’t wait to go back. Follow the page on Instagram for more updates.
