Maharashtra's infrastructure committee has approved a redesigned Uttan-Virar Sea Link that slashes costs by over ₹30,000 crore while expanding connectivity. The 55.12-km project now features six lanes instead of the previously proposed eight, with streamlined ramps modelled after Mumbai's successful Coastal Road design.

Maharahstra CM announced the sea link will extend to Vadhavan Port, connecting with the Delhi-Vadodara-Mumbai Expressway. The project includes a 24.35-km main bridge linking Uttan, Vasai, and Virar, aimed at easing chronic congestion on Mumbai's overstretched Western Express Highway and SV Road.

The revised cost-cutting approach, developed through scientific traffic studies, integrates the sea link with metro lines as part of the state's ambitious 'Mumbai In Minutes' initiative, promising 59-minute connectivity across the city.

Additionally, the committee greenlit a 66-km ring road in Nashik for the 2027 Kumbh Mela and directed Pune Metro's upgrade to six-coach trains. The CM emphasised connecting Pune's expanding metro network to the upcoming Purandar Airport via tunnel, with completion targets set between 2027-2029.
