Mumbaikars may be indulging their sweet tooth this Ganesh Chaturthi, but it is Lord Ganesha, the elephant-headed Hindu god, who gets the biggest bite! The city has unveiled what could be called the ultimate festive indulgence: an 851 kg modak at the iconic Girgaon Cha Raja pandal.

The towering treat, stands 4 feet tall with a waistline of 3 feet 8 inches and a base of 2 feet 4 inches. It has been officially recognised by the World Record Book of India, as the 'world’s largest traditional modak'.

Not a casual kitchen experiment!

Crafted over 8 days by a team of designers, engineers, and artisans, the colossal sweet was no casual kitchen experiment. Temperature-controlled mixing vats, a custom-built platform, and meticulous planning ensured that the besan, ghee, mawa, sugar, and elaichi creation arrived intact and on time. Fortune Edible Oil & Foods, in partnership with Girgaon Cha Raja, Organized Outdoor Options, and MM Mithaiwala & Namkeen Pvt. Ltd., brought the idea to life.

Prasadam with a purpose

The modak, seated inside an eco-friendly bamboo pandal, is more than just a feast for the eyes! It is prasadam with a purpose, set to be shared with 20,000 devotees. In true Mumbai spirit, it fuses devotion with scale, tradition with innovation, and sweetness with spectacle.

For Girgaon Cha Raja, a century-old pandal celebrated for its devotion and social messaging, the record-breaking modak is another feather in its festive cap. So if Ganeshotsav is about community, creativity, and collective faith, this 851 kg modak delivers it all; soaked in ghee, and wrapped in devotion.
