Jaipur's Museum of Gem & Jewellery chronicles the tale of a stone becoming a gem

Narrating the rich legacy of the gem industry of Jaipur through powerful visuals is the jewel-studded premises of the Museum of Gem and Jewellery (MGJ). One of the unique museums in the Pink City, it showcases the origin of precious stones, history of trade and craftsmanship, of a variety of specimens. Further, the weekly changing jeweller displays ensure that all the desire for newness of tourists and locals alike, are catered to. So let's take walk along its corridors to virtually amaze ourselves with some dazzling details!

Telling a sparkling story through the ages!

Conceptualised by Dr. Rajnikant Shah, the Museum of Gem and Jewellery is sponsored by jewellers from Jaipur, living in New York and supported by the Rajasthan Chamber of Commerce & Industry. This venture has been opened in partnership with Resurgent Rajasthan and the State Tourism Department.

The galleries of this museum display an array of precious and semiprecious gemstones with descriptions of quality and characteristics. Further, details of the related rough stones like quartz, agate, jade, garnet and peridot are also mentioned to the tourists, for an all-encompassing idea about gemstones.

The tools of the trade that help in whetting the rough stones into gemstones are showcased and owing to their placement, an anthropology enthusiast can sense their development through ages. Among its collection of rare and precious things are a dinosaur egg, various types of fossils, a section for African rough stones, idols of the nine planets and much more

Knock Knock

To engage visitors in a multi-sensory experience, the MGJ has a mini-theatre that plays a video presentation. Moreover, the bounds of this museum are host to multiple events like workshops, seminars and conferences, that cover topics like mining, cutting, jewellery designing and the likes. Be prepared for an all-round experience if you are planning to step foot in this place when the pandemic recedes. Also, do not forget to carry a souvenir back from their gift shop!
