A first of its kind hair donation drive for cancer patients will be organised in Goa on the occasion of World Cancer Day on February 4, 2022. In a bid to make people aware and increase contribution towards a major cause of fighting cancer, a cancer support network, CanSurvive, managed by Caritas Goa requested the masses of Goa to donate hair.

The hair donation drive that is termed as ‘strand of love’ will take place at Caculo Mall, Panaji, Goa. Any interested person who can donate hair will have to make sure that their hair is a minimum of 12 inches in length from tip to tip since it is the minimum length used for a hairpiece. One can also donate their hair if they are bleached, coloured, layered or permed. In addition, the hair must be in a ponytail or a braid before it is cut and it must be clean and completely dry. Donated hair will be further sent to an agency in Mumbai that makes wigs for cancer patients.

CanSurvive is a cancer support network that assists people with cancer prevention and cancer management. Their campaigns and drives target educational institutions and local communities. The main idea behind these campaigns is to spread awareness among the masses about leading a healthy lifestyle. Caritas India group launched the ‘CanSurvive’ campaign against cancer on June 30, 2019, at the St Joseph Vaz Spiritual Renewal Centre in Old Goa. Its volunteers range from cancer oncologists and student volunteers.
