In wake of the second wave of the pandemic, Goa stands clamped under an ongoing curfew till June 7. Now, the state government will take cognisance of the present situation, before deciding over the extension of the curfew, Speaking about this, Chief Minister Pramod Sawant informed that the state administration will hold a review meeting with the top officials on June 6 and the restrictions may be extended or relaxed thereafter, depending upon the prevailing circumstances.

“We will conduct a review on June six on how to go ahead or revise it (curfew),” stated the Chief Minister. When questioned about his thoughts on the effects of the curfew, Sawant said, “More than saying whether I am satisfied, we have to see how much the mortality rate has reduced, positivity rate has reduced or how disciplined people have become is more important”.
It is noteworthy that the stand has been shrouded by lockdown-like curbs since May 9 when the case tallies were peaking. At that time, over 3,000 new cases were being reported daily and the count of fatalities inflated at an alarming rate with close to 100 deaths every day. Now, the graphs have dipped and 572 new infections were recorded on Thursday. While the recoveries surged by 1,695, 17 individuals lost their battle against the virus on the same day.

Irrespective of what the decision may be, the CM has requested the state citizens must ensure social distancing and stay away from crowded spots. “If the curfew is done away with, there should not be any crowding. If the third wave comes, the situation may repeat itself. People should take care of themselves. After vaccination, masks should be worn. Masks should be worn 100 per cent,” the Chief Minister said.
