Just when you thought you knew all about the Party Capital of the country, in comes this news. According to sources, the Goa government plans to make use of water taxis that will ply along the waterways that are within the state. As part of this, the plan is to have water taxis running from Panjim to Old Goa. This is a development that will not only benefit the locals, but will allow tourists to see Goa in a new light altogether.

Apart from just this development, there are a few other key changes that will change the way we travel in Goa. For one, the authorities have decided to do away with most of the existing ferries, upgrade ferry ramps as well as jetties.
According to reports, the new ferries will be solar powered thereby making them waterbody friendly. Subsequently, these solar powered ferries will be used as water taxis that will ply on Chorao and Panjim or Aldona and Panjim , both of which are areas in North Goa. Additionally, the new ferries will be noticeably faster than the older, more rustic ones, meaning you can get to your destination much quicker and without the hassle.
As for the ferry ramps and jetties that will be upgraded, the plan is to have them functional very soon. They will serve the purpose of making waterway routes more convenient and provide several services as well. As of now, there is a a fleet of a total of 34 ferries that connect the small islands to the mainland.
At any rate, we’re glad that such a development is in the making and will be put in place very soon. The water taxis are a first of their kind and we’re actually quite eager to see how a ride in those turns out.
