The war situation in Ukraine has left countless Indian-origin students struggling to come back safely to their homeland. With the embassy and authorities trying to swiftly evacuate Indians from war-torn Ukraine, every passing hour for India moves in strange lurches and dragging lulls.
On Friday, India evacuated two more Goan students, Joelifa Goes and Mihir Deshpande from war-torn Ukraine, marking their safe landing in New Delhi. Similarly, two other Goan students Anezka Fernandes and Shaphan Almeida were also safely evacuated from Ukraine via Romania and Poland respectively, on Thursday.

By Thursday evening, a total of 10 Goan students had arrived in the state, back to their families, from Ukraine as a part of the evacuation exercise undertaken by India.
According to an official statement on Friday, India has successfully brought 18,000 of the estimated 20,000 Indians stranded in Ukraine, into the safe zone. As per Goa’s NRI commissioner, a total of 17 Goan students were studying in Ukraine. Notably, a helpline number has also been established to assist Goans stranded in Ukraine.

Russia-Ukraine war has already stoked the price of crude which is now above $100 a barrel; this will directly or indirectly impact almost all consumer-facing products. India imports nearly 80 per cent of its oil needs and this price hike is directing the country towards a risk of inflation. As a result of the war between Russia and Ukraine, the cooking oil price has shot up by 12% in the Goa markets. The import services of several raw products have been halted amid fear that the prices may skyrocket in the coming days.
Apart from cooking oil, vegetable ghee has also marked a sudden hike in price. Reportedly, prices of other items like refined wheat flour (maida) and vegetables in the Panjim market have also reported some rise. Market rates of tomato, potato, onion and other vegetables have shown a minor fluctuation, the price of green chillies has almost doubled from ₹60 per kg to a whopping ₹120 per kg at the wholesale market and ₹160 per kg at the retail market.
