In an attempt to assess the state of the pandemic, officials of Indore’s Mahatma Gandhi Memorial Medical College will launch a serosurvey of children below the age of 18. As per the latest reports, the samples will be collected only after taking proper consent from the kids or their parents. Reportedly, the authorities will seek consent from the parents if the kid is aged 12 while the elder children will be asked for their personal permission for this procedure.

50 teams to be deployed for sample collection from 25 wards

As per reports, children who have been continuously residing in Indore since March 1 last year will be included in this program. It has been reported that samples of nearly 2,000 children will be collected from 25 different municipal wards in Indore. Reportedly, children who refuse to give their samples and those affected by mental issues, intoxication or confusion will also be not included.

All set to start from the next week, the drive will extend for a period of 5 to 7 days. As per reports, 50 teams will be deployed for the collection of samples from 25 wards. Each of these teams shall consist of 2 nurses and one person from an NGO to assist them. Given the dearth of ‘superior’ kits in the medical college, private labs will be roped in for testing the samples.

Children across 3 age groups to be a part of the drives

Reportedly, the samples would be collected from different categories of children aged between 1-6, 7-9 and 10-18. As per reports, 7 wards out of the total 25 will account for the maximum collection of samples. This is due to the fact that these wards have high proportions of the population. Once the results of this analysis are inferred, authorities will be better equipped to prepare an action plan for the future.
