The first consignment of the Covishield vaccine, carrying about 1,51,520 doses, reached the city of Indore on Wednesday. As per the statement of the Regional Director, this batch will cater to the requirements of 15 districts falling under the Indore and Ujjain Division in Madhya Pradesh. 15,000 beneficiaries have been identified in Indore, who’ll be first in line to receive the booster shot in the first phase of vaccination drive, launching on January 16. Based on this list, the city’s requirement stands at about 33,000 doses, 2 for each person, which need to be administered 28 days apart.
Coronavirus vaccine reaches Indore:
Indore has been identified as the worst-hit district in Madhya Pradesh, where the coronavirus case count has surged over 56,844 since the outbreak in April 2020. Though the rate of infection has now decelerated in the city, with an active load of 1,964 patients, medical staff and district authorities continue to fret over the infection spread. This, however, will soon be tackled as the city has finally received its first batch of Covishield vaccine vials from SII, Pune.
The Indore division has received about 13 boxes of the shots, which were handed over to the Regional Director of Health then within minutes of arrival. Each vial contains about 10 booster doses, which adds up to a total of 1,51,520 doses, fulfilling the requirement of 15 districts in Madhya Pradesh. These centres will be streamlined to conduct the mass vaccination drive against coronavirus, reported the Regional Director.
From the airport, the batch was transported from the regional storage centres to the district facilities established in Ujjain and Indore. Further, distribution to designated vaccine sites will be initiated in cold chain corridors, ahead of the nationwide inoculation drive starting tomorrow.
