In a bid to improve the situation of beggars in the city, Indore Municipal Corporation will start a new campaign for housing these deprived individuals in the rehabilitation centres. All set to start from tomorrow, the scheme aims to transform Indore into a beggar-free city. Under the upcoming program, beggars found at prominent crossings, Gandhi Hall, religious places, railways stations, bus stands and other spots, will be provided shelter at the reformation centres.
Beggars to be sheltered at the rehabilitation centre in Pardeshipura
Reportedly, the municipal commissioner Pratibha Pal summoned a meeting of the concerned officials and issued relevant orders for the program. As a part of this initiative, beggars will be picked from different regions of the city and they will be transported to the rehabilitation centre located in Pardeshipura. Reportedly, the commissioner has asked authorities to make sure that ample repair and restoration activities are undertaken at the building.
Residents to be encouraged for exploring employment opportunities
As per reports, the authorities will collect all the important information about these individuals. While senior citizens will be housed at an old age home, the officials will also make sure that there is sufficient preparation for the ill and wounded people. Besides free food and lodging, the beggars will also be facilitated with resources to explore employment opportunities, in their field of interest. Thus, this scheme envisions a complete reformation of the beggars.
If the relatives of any beggar wish to keep him/her, they will have to submit an undertaking to the officials and the civic body will maintain a watch over the activities of such a person. In case he or she is found to be involved in begging again, the relatives will have to bear the brunt of strict action. With a plan to provide the beggars in the city with shelter and strict norms to save them from the profession again, Indore Municipal Corporation will soon be able to accomplish the dream of an beggar-free city.
