The administrative authorities of Indore have banned the public usage of N95 masks which are equipped with valve respirators. Anyone found to be violating this rule which has been imposed with immediate effect, will have to shell out a fine of ₹100.
Valved Respirators banned under Section 144 of CrPC
This ban has stemmed from the advisory issued by the union health ministry last month. According to experts, this mask only protects the wearer and not the people around, since it has a breathing outlet. These N95 masks are a threat as asymptomatic patients can propel the germs further around while exhaling. The valves throw out the exhaled air with much force, which allows the virus to travel longer. So to combat this alarming scenario, citizens are being advised to use a three-layered mask instead.
This ban isn’t applicable on medical staff and health officials. Furthermore, the district collector of Indore, has also authorized civic officials and panchayat officials in the urban and rural areas, to ensure stringent implementation of this rule.
As of now, Madhya Pradesh has crossed the 40k mark when it comes to confirmed coronavirus cases and Indore has over 9,000 coronavirus patients. The city has also observed 340 fatalities.
