In light of the intensifying scare and swell of the coronavirus infection in Indore, all colleges in the district are expected to remain shut till May 15. While an official order is yet to be obtained for the same, the Minister of Higher Education on Thursday strongly suggested a 7-day extension of the present shutdown. A further extension will be issued if there is a need, he added. As of now, colleges in Indore have been directed to remain closed until May 7.
Online classes & lectures to continue
In view of the college shutdown, the Minister of Higher Education appealed to all educational institutes and varsities to continue classes via online lectures and other digital means of education. He has stated that this shutdown must not affect the academic progress and schedule, in any way. In a statement, he also motivated the people and highlighted that with sincerity and determination, the COVID pandemic will be defeated. It has happened once during the first wave and it can be repeated.
As of Thursday, Indore has logged in 1,09,029 confirmed COVID patients, out of which around 1,789 cases were added to the tally in the last 24 hours. Though the infection rate has surged to 2.6%, a boosted recovery rate is yielding more discharges than detections, effectively lowering the active caseload. On Thursday, around 2,342 recoveries were marked here, lowering the active caseload to 12, 608 cases.
To further diminish the rate of spread, an active vaccination programme is being conducted in Indore and other MP districts. So far, about 7,43,501 vaccine shots have been administered here, fostering a better immunity against the COVID infection. Though the phase 3 vaccination will not commence tomorrow in Madhya Pradesh, inoculation of other permitted population groups will continue in Indore and across. All healthcare workers, frontline officials and people over the age of 45 years can get the coronavirus jab.
