Hemming the edge of the expansive Thar Desert lies the small town of Churu that calls onto you with its old-worldly, mystic charm. An oasis of relief amid the shifting sand dunes of the vastness, this city transcends an unparalleled grandeur of its archaic havelis and fresco paintings that attract tourists from all over to its doorstep. Standing as the link to the contemporary settlement of today and the magnificent era of the past, this place is known to bring the best of both worlds to you.

A fantasy in the modern world

i0.wp.com

Tucked in the historic Shikhawat region of northwestern Rajasthan, Churu is elevated at 292 m (958 ft) above the mean sea level. With its scanty spread through the scapes of barren and encircling dunes of shifting sands around, its innate beauty and unique architecture truly stand out, fascinating the people around and across. Churu’s allure is magnetic and sublime which holds the potential to transport you to a reverie, that is larger than life and beyond your imagination!

Like all its other district counterparts, the city’s royal affiliation has been narrated through fables and folks through the years. Legends have it that the town was discovered by Nirban clan of Rajputs in 1120 AD and was named Churu after the King Churaman in the Bangladesh region of the state. Since then, its patronage relayed through the authorities of the Rathore Rajputs and the Shekhawat’s.

The touch of rustic-royal

Though old and forgotten by the world, the place chronicles the beauty of the yore in the form of abandoned havelis. When here, you need to witness the majesty of Kanhaiya Lal Bagla Ki Haweli and Surana Haweli, with hundreds of small windows! Besides, Churu’s exquisite Sethani ka Johara and ghantaghar further add the rustic touch to your trip.

But that’s not all! the Tal Chappar Sanctuary, the shifting dunes and a desert safari are the perfect opportunity for you to unleash the explorer in you and embark on an eventful day here. You can also visit the Salasar Balaji Temple and take a walk through its lively markets to get closer to its vibrant and exuberant culture!

How to reach Churu

www.nativeplanet.com

The district of Churu is well connected to other towns in the state by the route of NH-65. Further, the Bikaner Rail Line passes through the small town, inducting it into mainstream travel. If you are starting your journey from Pink City capital, you can either race through RJ SH 37 or the shorter route NH 52, depending on the road and traffic congestion. With a journey that won’t clock more than 4 hours on the watch, it is the ideal destination to plan a road-trip! You will also be able to watch the shifting-shapes of the desert, which in itself is a treat!

Needless to say, the winter season is the best time to visit this place. So make sure to carry jackets, thermals and all your sweaters for nights in the desert region are shivery cold and temperatures might drop a minimum of -5°C.
