After Andhra Pradesh and Jharkhand, a huge reserve of Uranium deposits were discovered in Khandela tehsil of Sikar district in Rajasthan. The officials are expecting around 12 million tonnes of Uranium and other such elements in the 1086.46 hectares of land.
The Rajasthan state government has issued a letter of intent (LOI) to the Uranium Corporation of India to start the mining of Uranium ore in the state and register the state as a mining hub.
Uranium ore to generate employment
Apart from generating electricity, Uranium can be used in nuclear energy, medicine, defence equipment, and photography, among other things. According to the officials of the mining department, the Uranium Corporation will be investing around ₹3,000 crores in mining-related activities, which will provide employment, directly or indirectly, to over 3,000 people.
“Uranium Mining will open doors for investment, revenue and employment while taking Rajasthan on the world screen,” Dr Subodh Agrawal, ACS Mines and Petroleum Department. With this, Rajasthan will become the third state in the country to start Uranium mining after completing the necessary formalities.
