Proving the adage ‘necessity is the mother of invention’ true, a second-year BTech student from Kanpur has developed a new solar-powered air conditioner in a bid to provide an eco-friendly alternative to the AC’s available in the market currently. The prototype model does not use a compressor and thus, eliminates the emission of greenhouse gases that cause global warming. Reportedly, this new AC will cost relatively less, making it an affordable and popular option for a wider population base.
A battery-operated, solar AC with 8-hours of power backup!
Samarjeet Singh, a second-year BTech student from a private engineering college in Kanpur’s Rooma, has designed a solar AC in a bid to check the rising concerns of global warming. Equipped with an 18-watt solar panel, a 12-volt battery, a fan and a digital thermometer, the prototype design can offer an 8-hour power backup when connected to a battery. It does not use a compressor, which cuts down on its cost as well as the toxicity it adds to the environment.
As per reports, the idea to engineer this eco-friendly AC, stemmed from the need to find a solution from the oppressive and humid weather and not polluting the environment at the same time. Samarjeet Singh shared the concept of the solar AC with his college teachers, who pitched in help and support to create the prototype. This prototype will be used to create the first-generation model of the air conditioner, read reports.
A battery-operated device, this AC is expected to cost relatively lower than the commercial ACs available in the market. The model is also suitable for use in auto-rickshaws or e-rickshaws, as it does not use any electricity or engine oil.
