UP state budget upscales funding for Kanpur Metro; rails to start operations from Nov 30

The Uttar Pradesh Metro Rail Corporation had resorted to accelerated efforts for Kanpur Metro to ensure that the services are opened for the public as soon as possible. Now, with the announcement of the Uttar Pradesh financial budget, the metro project has been facilitated with funding proposals of ₹597 crores for the upcoming fiscal year 2021-22. While laying out the budget provisions, the state finance minister asserted that the metro rail is expected to start operations from November 30.

Trial runs to be executed by the end of July

In his budget speech, the finance minister also informed that the desired date for starting the trial runs of Kanpur Metro is 31st July 2021. Planned to be built on an approved budget of ₹ 11,076 crores, Kanpur Metro would be surely benefitted by magnified funding through the budget allocation.

As per reports, the UPMRC has prioritised 9 out of 21 stations on the proposed route from IIT Kanpur to Naubasta. All of these 9 stations are being constructed with elevated platforms and the work of station concourses is almost nearing completion.

In the past, the state government had signed an agreement with a European bank to achieve an investment of ₹ 3,092 crores. Out of this, an amount of ₹ 1767 crores has been already received by the metro authorities. With accentuated funding and the proactive approach followed by UPMRC, the rapid transport system in Kanpur would soon revamp the local connectivity in the city.

UPMRC is also working on metro train projects for Agra and Gorakhpur. With a list of accomplishments that the organisation has recorded for the Lucknow Metro, it is expected that the new projects will be add more feathers to its cap.
