Whether it’s ‘Mughal-e-Azam’ or Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s extravagant period drama sets, our allure towards mahals and sultans has always been evident in our films and in our culture. Born in a land that has seen an umpteen number of rulers from diverse cultures, the delight we feel from viewing arched openings and grand chhatris is unparalleled. So for all those who have a ‘Jodha Akbar’ fantasy of lurking through sprawling corridors, Hindola Mahal in Mandu, should be the next stop. Located around 85 km from Indore, this place is worth a halt and we’ll tell you why!

A paradise for all you history aficionados!

A haven for all the shutterbugs and Instagrammers out there, Hindola Mahal provides for perfect backdrops and the most exquisite frames. This majestic edifice, also known as the Swinging Palace due to its sloping side walls, is believed to be constructed in 1425 under the rule of Hoshang Shah. But on the other hand, official sources say that it was built in the 15th century under the reign of Ghiyasuddin Khilji.

This palace is a T-shaped structure with an extension towards its northern face and it also boasts of arched-openings, that allow ample of light and air to enter! Once here, the vibe of the premises will take you back to the glory of the days gone by. But if you want to explore other places around, make sure to include Baz Bahadur’s Palace, Roopmati’s Pavilion, Jahaz Mahal, Jami Masjid, Rewa Kund, amid other locales.
