Amidst increasing pollution, Lucknow Metro becomes the saviour for 65,000 people!

Since its initial launch in 2017, Lucknow Metro has become a dependable mode of public transport for the residents of the city. The metro has been steadily making its place among the traditional mode of transportation in the city and it seems that the increasing pollution is making the ridership boom.

With an average of 65,000 daily riders, the Lucknow Metro has become Lucknow’s favourite mode of transportation during thick smog and lowering visibility.

What’s the update?

Lucknow Metro’s North-South corridor, albeit not as ginormous or as webbed as the Delhi Metro, has surely found its way into the lives of the city’s residents. The Chaudhary Charan Singh Airport to Munshipulia route has become a reliable public transport that not only provides a cheaper travel to the residents but a significantly more comfortable one.

According to the Lucknow Metro Rail Corporation (LMRC), the metro corridor sees a daily ridership of 65,00 and on the eve of Dhanteras it jumped from that to 75,000. Making the overall jump in the ridership to be approximately 18%.

Why the increase?

The increase in footfall and overall ridership of the Lucknow Metro can be attributed to several things including the ease of travel, a safety net from pollution as well as the connectivity (the recent feeder bus services).

For an average person travelling via a two-wheeler, auto-rickshaw or any other means of public transport means dealing with the smog that has blanketed the city, of late. Yet, in the metro the commute is smog-free and much more comfortable. Especially if you take into account the fact that new feeder busses have started running from Gomti Nagar Extension, Para, Sarojini Nagar and Faizabad Road to major metro station including Munshipuliya, Charbagh, Indira Nagar, Krishna Nagar and Transport Nagar.

A greener option

It is no news that the pollution in the city is increasing by the hour. For many concerned citizens, taking their cars or bikes out and abetting it is unthinkable, for those select few, metro provides for a greener alternative.

With the metro people can commute in the city and not leave a massive carbon footprint that they feel guilty about later on.

“Lucknow Metro has been a blessing in disguise for the Lucknowites by significantly bringing down traffic woes and decongesting the city’s roads of the vehicular transport. Lucknow Metro has also brought down emission levels in the city and has become a cleaner and greener Mass Rapid Transit System (MRTS) as well as the city’s lifeline,” a senior metro official told Knocksense.

He also added that the Lucknow Metro has reduced the particulate matter by 10-16% in the last one year and has also harvested more than 2 crore litres of rainwater.

Knock Knock

The increase in ridership is not the only thing new about the Lucknow Metro. The metro stations have become a hub of activity with new businesses finding shelter at the stations itself. Yes, we’re talking about the Domino’s restaurant at LU and Hazratganj stations, as well as a food court that is coming up at Bhootnath metro station.

These have made the Lucknow Metro, the new “it” transport and we couldn’t be more glad about it. Here’s hoping that the Lucknow metro finds a new corridor and connects the entire city, making it possible for us to just take the metro and go where-ever we want.
