With the commencement of winter, the sanctuaries and wetlands in Uttar Pradesh are once again welcoming their winged patrons just like every year, which has set the state abuzz with tweets and chirps. Birds like grey and purple heron, northern shoveller and pintail, red-crested pochard and so on, can be spotted flying around, which is no less than a visual treat for photographers and bird watchers. As per reports, Additional Principal Chief Conservator of Forests, Agra, K Pravin Rao stated that, with days getting colder, the migratory birds will continue to come in.

Uttar Pradesh boasts of 8 Ramsar sites out of 41 such sites in India

A major chunk of UP’s wetlands, call in winter and migratory birds in huge flocks annually and with the monsoon season treating the state well this year, it has increased the chances of the wetlands being occupied by its regular residents. Over the past few years, sightings of a few rare birds have also been reported in Uttar Pradesh, which has contributed immensely to the thriving ecosystem of diverse flora and fauna in the region.

K Pravin Rao has also curated a plan to make a video of each of the wildlife and bird sanctuaries that the state currently houses. In his videos, he will be briefly introducing the sanctuaries individually and providing information on how to reach the place and what to look forward to. These videos will be available on Rao’s YouTube channel, later on.

Uttar Pradesh also boasts of 8 Ramsar sites out of 41 such sites in India, which is also a contributing factor to the footfalls of nature travellers in the state. Wildlife sanctuaries which are famous in UP, including Katarniaghat Wildlife Sanctuary, National Chambal Wildlife Sanctuary, Nawabganj Bird Sanctuary amidst others, report a substantial tally of visitors every year, especially during winters.
