Revamping the current examination system for the upcoming academic session, the Uttar Pradesh authorities have come up with an increased count of assessments for students of grades 9 to 12. As a part of the plan, the state government has resolved that quarterly tests will also be conducted in schools affiliated with the UP Secondary Education Board, besides the monthly tests and half-yearly examinations.
Scores of all assessments to be recorded on the board’s online portal
As per the academic schedule for the 2021-22 session, the quarterly tests will be held in the second half of September. Notably, the secondary education department has instructed school authorities to record marks of evaluations on the board’s online portal. This includes the scores of monthly to quarterly internal assessments, pre-boards, and annual exams. The data entry program will be executed from class 9th itself and it shall help in speeding up the process of result declaration.
“In an unprecedented situation such as Covid which forced the cancellation of board exams, we have to rely on secondary data to devise a marking formula. The data collection exercise is time-taking. Now, the board will have marks of students in all examinations they appeared in,” said an official.
Detailed schedule of various examinations released
The higher authorities have issued directives to the school officials, to ensure that the marks of the quarterly tests are recorded by October second week. Additionally, the orders entail that the students of grades 9 and 10 will sit for 10-mark tests in August, October and January and their marks will have to be uploaded by month-end.
Further, the schedule mentions that half-yearly exams will be held in mid-December and the marks have to be logged on the virtual platform in January. While the pre-boards will be conducted in the first half of February, end-year exams for Classes 9 and 11 are scheduled in the second week of February.
New model of multiple tests being deployed to prepare cohesive results
This new model of multiple repetitive examinations will help to prepare cohesive results in the absence of board examinations. It is to be noted that the marks of monthly tests, will not be added to the final results.
Tweaking the examination pattern for Class 9, the board has re-structured the question paper to include two types of questions- MCQ and descriptive. While the syllabus has been reduced by 30% like last year, the education department has also rolled out a schedule for completing different parts of the syllabus.
