IndiGo has resumed its services in the state capital amid covid-19 and the airline is currently running 650 weekly flights to and from Uttar Pradesh. IndiGo flights are operational in four cities of the state, including Lucknow, Varanasi, Prayagraj and Gorakhpur, as of now. These flights also include the ones which are operated under the Regional Connectivity Scheme (RCS) routes.
Highest air travel demand identified in Lucknow
As per reports, IndiGo has seen the highest air travel demand in Lucknow and has connected 13 domestic destinations including new direct flights to Indore and Raipur, to the city. The airline also connects Varanasi to 7 domestic destinations, including Ahmedabad, Bengaluru, Mumbai, Kolkata, Delhi, Hyderabad and Mumbai. Further, in a major development, IndiGo has also brought Gorakhpur on its map, connecting it to five domestic destinations, namely, Kolkata, Delhi, Hyderabad, Prayagraj and Mumbai.
The airline has even operated around 300 Vande Bharat flights, connecting Uttar Pradesh with Dubai, Doha, Sharjah, Jeddah, Kuwait, Dammam, Riyadh and Abu Dhabi.
Increase in operational capacity of air travel
On November 11, the Ministry of Civil Aviation allowed domestic carriers to increase the operations from 60% to 70% capacity. A senior official at IndiGo said that Uttar Pradesh being the largest state in the country, has a huge potential pertaining to the revival of air travel.
