Bidding goodbye to virtual tours, IIHM students once again took to the streets of India, to savour, experience and learn about the vast and lip-smacking culinary history of Indian cuisine. Starting on February 28, 2022, the IIHM Culinary Educational Tour kicked off with 17 students from the Food Production department of various IIHM campuses who will be touring India’s leading food destinations like Lucknow, Jaipur, Delhi and Goa through the next two weeks.

The tour flagged off from Lucknow, where on March 1, the students explored Awadh’s favourite sweet dish, Makhan Malai at Gol Darwaza, the drool-worthy Khasta & Kachori at Rattilal, Latouche Road followed by the filling Bun Maska at Hazratganj. Students proceeded to the food workshop with Chef Mohsin Quereshi at Lebua Hotel, Lucknow followed by a city culinary walk covering luscious Ram Ashray ki Mithai, the richness of Mubeens’ Pasanda with Kulche Nahari, the world-famous Idrees Ki Biryani and ending the day with just the right thing, Prakash Ki Kulfi.

On Days 5 and 6, the students woke up in the royal city of Jaipur where they first visited a Hydroponic Farm. This followed by a lunch at Mahaveer Bhandar enjoying ‘bijar ka rotla’, and dinner and authentic Rajasthani experience at Chokhi Dhani. The Jaipur tour ended with a demonstration of making Laal Maas at Kebabs and Curries Company after tasting and experiencing, the authenticity of pickles, spices and choorans of the city.
Goa tour of IIHM

The next two legs will be in Delhi and Goa, wherein the students will visit ITC Grand Bharat’s organic farm, organic duck farm in Manesar, rice factory, cold storages, Azadpur Fruits and Vegetable Market and several other interesting sites. The 15-day journey of food tasting and learning will end with experiencing the vibrant food culture of Goa.
The Goa leg will allow students to explore various Goan delicacies by Chef Rego, learn the ultimate art of fishing and selling in the local market. And towards the end, of the tour, after some local sightseeing, the students will be off to their colleges in their respective institutes.
With an aim to build a student’s relationship with food and not just cooking, the institute launched the 15-day culinary tour, encouraging students to adopt unique and authentic ways of learning.
