In wake of the heavy traffic snarls on Lucknow’s Kursi Road nearby routes and areas, the Uttar Pradesh PWD has launched a targetted plan of action to streamline vehicular movement. As per reports, the department will be sealing around 8 illegal turns on the route from Tedhi Puliya Chauraha to St. Mary’s Hospital in this region to regulate traffic and reduce the possibility of road accidents, further road development work in Lucknow. Notably, the process of filling these turns is already in motion since Saturday and is expected to complete soon.
Public complaints drive PWD initiative
The PWD initiatve has been backed by several complaints about severe road blocks and unruly traffic flow here. The action, however, has been triggered by a strong grievance charged by Vivek Sharma, Vice-President, Lucknow Jan Kalyan Mahasamiti. Sharma pointedly made recurring complaints to the PWD officials, and also notified about the troubles on the CM Jansunwai Portal.
Notably, there are 18 illegal or unplanned cuts on the 3-km-long stretch from Srishti Apartment, Kursi Road to Tedhi Pulia Chauraha. Traffic moves from all these cuts and hinders the flow on the main road, resulting in long jams and blockages.
To mitigate these woes, Public Works Department’s Assistant Engineer Rajkumar Maurya and Junior Engineer Silky Agrawal inspected the stretch on Saturday. As per their orders, a drive to fill 8 of these cuts on the main Kursi Road has started in Lucknow. The remaining 10 turns are likely to be sealed shut in the coming days.
Expect easy travel on Kursi Road soon
“I travel via the UPSIDC Kursi Road everyday for my work and traffic congestions here have always been an issue. The cuts are random and cars appear from just anywhere on the main road, causing several accidents. The situation is way worse at night when it is dark and people are speeding on roads, in addition to the movement of trucks”, Ramesh Chandra of Vikas Nagar said, adding “Now that the sealing of these cuts have started, we hope for the travel to become easy here”.
