A slew of efforts have been administered by UP authorities to curb the spread of COVID-19 and contributing to the attempts, is Uttar Pradesh Adarsh Vyapar Mandal, based in Lucknow. The repercussions of the second wave of coronavirus have now led to the closure of markets in the city, for a minimum of 4-5 days but essentials and medicines will be available at all times. Sanjay Gupta, the president of the association, appealed to the traders to keep their businesses shut for some time, as a step towards their social responsibility.
Timelines brought into effect by the associations in unison!
According to official reports, Aminabad will be shuttered till April 22 but the inactivity at Hazratganj will continue till April 18, after which, a decision will be made regarding the extension of the shutdown. Additionally, Sarafa Bazaar and Indira Nagar’s Bhootnath Market will remain inoperative till April 17.
These timelines have been brought into effect by the Hazratganj Traders Association, Aminabad Merchant Association, Janpath Market Vyapar Mandal, Chowk Vyapar Mandal and Naka Vyapar Mandal.
Further, the president of Uttar Pradesh Adarsh Vyapar Mandal has urged the authorities to consider a 7-day lockdown, keeping in view the health and safety of the traders, their families and customers. Gupta added that given the daunting infection surge, it is only acceptable that all of us stay home and follow the issued COVID-19 protocols. He even worded his fears, stating that if guidelines aren’t followed and strict actions are not taken right away, the aftermath of any present leniency will be catastrophic.
Voluntary market lockdown for the greater good!
The decision of keeping markets shuttered in Lucknow, has been voluntarily undertaken by the associations to break the chain of the raging pandemic, even though their peak-selling season is underway. It is also to be noted that approximately 5,000 traders in the city have tested positive for the virus as yet, which is also one of the prime reasons behind this resolution.
