Lucknow’s metro network is set for a massive expansion as preparations for six new corridors are underway. The proposed routes include a 6.450 km stretch from Munshipulia to Jankipuram, a 17.16 km line from IIM to Rajajipuram, an 8.855 km connection from Charbagh to SGPGI, and a 3.48 km corridor linking Indira Nagar to Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Stadium. The UPMRC is determined to commence work on these projects within this year.
East-West Corridor and new routes to ease travel
Meanwhile, the East-West Corridor (Phase-1B), spanning 11.165 km from Charbagh to Vasant Kunj, is poised for approval. Of this, 4.286 km will be elevated, while 6.879 km will be underground. Upon completion, Lucknow’s metro network will cover nearly 80 km, enabling over 3 lakh daily commuters and transforming the city’s transport landscape.
By 2030, two additional routes—a 16.470-km line connecting Ekana Stadium to Chaudhary Charan Singh International Airport and a 9.246-km corridor from Secretariat to CG City South—are expected to commence.
Officials, including Defence Minister and Urban Development Minister, have expressed strong support, marking this expansion as a top priority for the state government.
