The annual budget session of the Uttar Pradesh Vidhan Sabha has officially commenced today, February 18, in Lucknow. As a new initiative, the legislative assembly has introduced multilingual interpretation services, for the first time in its history. The MLAs at the UP Vidhan Sabha will now be able to participate in proceedings in regional languages, including English, Awadhi, Braj, Bundelkhandi and Bhojpuri.

To facilitate this, interpreters for all five languages will be stationed in the House, enabling members to listen to discussions in their preferred language through dedicated headphone channels.

Assembly Speaker Satish Mahana announced this initiative on Monday, stating that Uttar Pradesh will be the first state in the country to implement such a facility in its legislative assembly. The move aims to enhance linguistic diversity and foster greater inclusivity in the democratic process.
