Askari Naqvi’s sarangi, Yatindra Mishra’s stories & Kutle Khan’s folk fire await
Askari Naqvi opens the night with Megha Rey, and it’s less a recital than a conversation Awadh has been having with the rain for centuries, finally set to sarangi, dholak and tabla. The songs pull from old Barsaat compositions and poets like Nazeer Akbarabadi and Meera Bai, and somewhere in the mix of vocals and strings, every mood the monsoon carries shows up uninvited, longing, love, a little mischief, and the kind of nostalgia that doesn’t need explaining if you’ve grown up here.
Yatindra Mishra follows, and the pace barely changes, it just gets more thoughtful. As a poet and music scholar, he walks through Kahaani Geeton Ki: Baarish Edition, tracing the songs and memories that turned rain into one of Indian music’s favourite obsessions.
Then the mood flips entirely as headliner Kutle Khan takes the stage, and Rajasthan’s folk energy arrives with khartal in hand, refusing to stay quiet for anyone’s introspective evening. It’s rhythm-first, unapologetically loud, and blends old folk traditions with a contemporary edge, the kind of set that makes people who came to sit and reflect suddenly stand up.
