Uttar Pradesh exceeds the figure of 2000 in the state’s highest spike in the Coronavirus cases with about 2058 positive cases reported on Thursday. The state’s capital Lucknow, is responsible for adding maximum to this load; about 308 cases, highest in the state and the city’s highest ever. In another set of highs, Lucknow continues to be the city to record the highest number of cases in the state for about a week now. The Capital’s total tally now after adding Friday’s data stands at around 3386 cases.
Massive spike, massive troubles
The unprecedented rise in the number of cases in the month of July in Lucknow, has raised alarming concerns and troubles for its people and administration alike. With more than 2200 cases reported in city since the beginning of July, the state capital is dealing with about 2060 active cases.
Lucknow city hospitals are running short of ICU beds as the number of admissions of critical coronavirus patients are on a constant high for a week. With the front line doctors and nurses infected in many hospitals have weakened Lucknow’s defense against the virus, shortage of ICU facilities adds only to the worries of the health administration.
About 73 new areas in the city have been marked as containment zones, taking the total number to 528. Apart from this, 4 police stations of Ghazipur, Sarojininagar, Indiranagar and Aashiana have emerged as hotspots and have reported maximum number of cases in the city. As per the district administration’s orders, all localities falling under the jurisdiction of these police stations will be turned into containment zones starting July 20 until further notice.
Weekend Lockdown Guide
As a weekend lockdown has been imposed to curb the growth of the coronavirus and other water borne communicable diseases in the state, here is all that one needs to know about Uttar Pradesh’s weekend lockdown:
Under lockdown
All urban and rural haats, markets, galla mandis and business establishments would remain closed in the state. It is 5 days a week for state markets, which will run between 9 am to 9 pm only. Weekly market offs will be shifted to Saturday and Sunday. Any weekly markets that are otherwise organised over the weekend will be shifted to the weekdays. All government offices will also remain closed during this period.
Out of ambit
All businesses providing essential services will remain open over the course of the weekend. Transportation facilities of UPSRTC, that is trains and buses will not cease to function. Movement of international and domestic flights will also continue. The IT industry in both urban and rural areas, and all industrial units associated to these will also continue operations. All religious will also remain opened.
All facilities and services will have to follow social distancing norms and other health related restrictions strictly.
