During the upcoming monsoon session, Members of the Uttar Pradesh Legislative Assembly will attend a voluntary training session on artificial intelligence (AI), developed and conducted by senior professors from IIT-Kanpur. The session is designed to familiarise lawmakers with AI tools and encourage their application in legislative duties, such as drafting bills, analysing laws, and monitoring government performance.

Areas of AI Application

  • MLAs will learn how AI can assist in writing laws, identifying legal issues, and comparing legislation across states and countries.

  • AI can analyse public opinion using data from social media, surveys, and other platforms to gauge reactions to new laws.

  • AI tools can help detect conflicts of interest by analysing lawmakers’ financial disclosures and connections.

  • The session will also cover digitisation of documents, allowing easier access to bills, reports, and legislative records.

  • AI’s ability to translate documents into various languages will be highlighted to improve comprehension among MLAs.

Session details

The training will be conducted on a single day during the session and is optional for members. The initiative is part of a broader push to integrate technology into governance.

This move could mark a shift towards tech-driven governance in Uttar Pradesh, possibly making it the first state in India to introduce AI training for legislators.
