In a significant leap towards modernising road infrastructure, Uttar Pradesh is set to get its first digital highway, connecting Barabanki and Bahraich. The 101-kilometer four-lane highway, scheduled to begin construction in March 2025, aims to revolutionise road travel and digital connectivity in the region.
This highway will link Lucknow to Shravasti Airport, and the India-Nepal border, enhancing local and international connectivity.
Integrated optic fibre and advanced safety features
The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has designed this smart corridor with integrated optic fibre cables along the entire route, eliminating future road disruptions for telecom infrastructure. Saurabh Kanaujia, NHAI’s Lucknow Project Director, stated that the project marks a significant step towards modern road construction in Uttar Pradesh.
The highway will feature 24-hour surveillance through NPR cameras, electronic alert systems, and advanced safety measures to prevent accidents. The well-lit corridor will have automated driver alert systems for hazardous turns and potential dangers.
Strategically, this digital highway will connect Lucknow to Shravasti Airport, National Highway-27, and the India-Nepal border, boosting regional connectivity. The project, already approved by the Union Highway Ministry, is part of NHAI’s ambitious plan to construct 10,000 kilometers of digital highways across India.
