Raising concerns amongst the citizens, a viral infection has gripped the city of Lucknow. As per records, over 400 individuals with symptoms of a viral fever have been admitted to different government hospitals across the city, in the past two days. Amid fears and anticipation around the beginning of the third COVID wave, doctors have called it ‘seasonal flu’ and attributed changing weather conditions as the cause behind it.
An alarming 15% hike in fever cases through the last week
Notably, 40 out of the total cases are children and this has further propelled a climate of threat amongst the city dwellers. Nearly 20% of all admitted patients have reported fever, cold and congestion. While the number of fever cases fell by 5% in the third week of August, an alarming hike of 15% has been recorded in the last week. All healthcare centres have been directed to ensure that no patient is taken into the OPD section without conducting a COVID antigen test.
Amongst the medical centres in the city, Balrampur Hospital, Civil Hospital and Lohia Institute have witnessed a spike in viral cases. Over 300 patients have visited the OPD with fever issues in the past few days. Further, Mahanagar Bhaurao Deoras, Rani Laxmibai, Lokbandhu, Ram Sagar Mishra and Community Health Centres have also recorded an increased tally of patients.
The medical superintendent of the Bhaurao Deoras hospital, Dr Manish informed that nearly 10 to 15 children with fever visiting the hospital daily. In addition to this, the number of people getting tested for dengue, malaria, typhoid has also surged above the normal level.
Extensive sanitisation and hygiene operations to be executed
Dr S.K. Nanda, director of Civil Hospital, said. “The weather is changing rapidly. Humidity has increased in the atmosphere. In such a situation, viruses are present on the lower surface of the atmosphere. There has been an increase in the number of viral fever cases and three dengue patients are admitted in the hospital. There has also been an increase of 20 percent in cases of viral fever and other related diseases.”
Additionally, the cases of dengue fever are also rising in Lucknow. In view of this, the district administration is undertaking massive sanitisation and hygiene drives. While micro-level teams will be deployed for dengue prevention, DM Abhishek Prakash has asked to spray anti larva twice a day across the areas with maximum cases.
This includes Latush Road, Aminabad, Lalbagh, Kaiserbagh, Hazratganj, Indiranagar, Nishatganj, Mahanagar, Badshahnagar, Gomtinagar, Aliganj, Babuganj, Vikasnagar, Madianv, Faizullaganj, Thakurganj, Balaganj, Chowk and other regions.
