Majority of the work for increasing the speed has been completed.

The long distance express mail trains that operate on the Mumbai-Ahmedabad route will ply at an increased speed of 160 km/h from March 2024. According to updates from the Mumbai Division of the Western Railway, the majority of the work regarding the speed upgrade has been completed.

It is noteworthy that this speed upgrade will slash the travel time by around 30 minutes on average. To begin with, this change will be implemented in some premium trains like Vande Bharat, Shatabdi, and Tejas. Later on, other 120 LHB coach trains will also begin to ply faster on the route.
