The BMC’s latest brainwave to impose a “Pay and Park” policy outside Joggers’ Park on Carter Road has ruffled more than a few feathers among Bandra residents. The ‘Save Joggers’ Park’ group, formed by local residents, launched a signature campaign opposing the plans to charge parking fees on Tuesday.
Joggers’ Park is a popular destination, drawing in a large crowd of morning walkers, joggers, and families from Bandra, Khar, and Santacruz who are on a mission to escape the daily grind. Not all of them are happy with this new BMC proposal.
The local citizens used to park their vehicles free of cost in front of Joggers’ Park in the open space. But now on, the BMC is contemplating providing parking facilities by charging a fee.
Asif Zakaria, former Corporator voiced his frustration, sharing, “The Pay and Park scheme is nothing but a financial squeeze on the locals who use the park regularly for a spot of fresh air and well-being. The BMC should be about serving the community, not cashing in. Surely, there are better ways to generate revenue?”
