This Saturday, April 26, Mumbai’s St. Andrew’s Church in Bandra, Mumbai, will host the vibrant East Indian Food Festival, celebrating a unique fusion of North Konkan and Portuguese culinary traditions.
Visitors can indulge in authentic dishes like the spicy sorpotel, tangy vindaloo, and mutton stew with a Portuguese twist, all enriched by the community’s secret ‘bottle masala’, a blend of over 100 spices stored in beer bottles. The menu also features fugiyas (spongy bread), fresh seafood, and seasonal delicacies like ‘wil’ (white onions) and sukeli (dried bananas).
The festival will also highlight traditional nine-yard lugra sarees, East Indian music, and dance performances. While live bands may not perform this year due to noise regulations, rare instruments like the ghumat (earthen drum) will be on display. The event runs from 5 PM to 10 PM, with free entry for all.
