200-year-old Bandra Talao, a heritage site in Mumbai, will soon be restored to its former glory, said Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC). Spanning 7.5 acres, this once-pristine lake has, for far too long, been overshadowed by litter and neglect. Despite its potential to significantly enhance both the aesthetic and ecological value of the area, it has remained in a dilapidated state for years.
Phased approach with ₹20 crore budget
According to officials, the work will be carried out in two phases. The first phase will focus on essential tasks such as dewatering and desludging the lake. The second phase will involve beautification efforts to further enhance the site’s appearance. The estimated cost of the project is ₹20 crore and will be funded by grants from the 15th Finance Commission.
To further ensure the success of the project, BMC has also appointed a consultant to conduct tests on the pond water. The proposal, initially prepared by BMC’s H-West ward, has been forwarded to the Sewerage Project and Operations Department. As per reports, it will be presented to the state government for approval shortly.
