The seemingly never-ending waterlogging in the streets of Mumbai posed as a problem once again, after incessant downpour on Friday. Vehicular traffic was diverted from Andheri Subway to different routes. In a bid to ensure hassle-free traffic movement, and to address the drainage issue at the Andheri Subway, BMC announced the widening of the drain at Andheri Subway.
Diversions ahead! Drain widening from October
The said subway is considered to be one of the most waterlogging-prone spots in Mumbai. Usually, after heavy rains, up to three feet of water is filled in the drains at Andheri Subway. This happens due to small capacity drains and improper waste management.
As of now, BMC has floated the tender to widen the drains, and as per officials, the construction work will start in October and is expected to be completed by March 2024. BMC has also started surveying the Mogra nullah after floating the tender of ₹100 crores.
Accordingly, once the construction of both drains has been set in motion, traffic diversions will be imposed at both locations. This will cater to hassle-free commute to nearby areas.
