The Indian Institute of Technology Bombay (IIT-B) has announced two new academic programmes during its 63rd Interim Convocation on Saturday. Starting July 2025, the institute will offer a four-year Bachelor of Science (BSc) in Applied Geophysics and a Master of Technology (MTech) in Climate and Sustainability, aligning with global trends in science and sustainability.
Additionally, IIT-B introduced new e-PG Diploma courses in AI & ML, E-Mobility, and Interactive Design under its Educational Outreach Office.
354 graduates awarded at Interim Convocation
During the ceremony, 354 degrees were awarded, including 219 PhDs, to students who completed their studies between August 2024 and January 2025. The interim convocation allows graduates to receive their degrees ahead of the formal ceremony, enabling them to pursue career opportunities or further studies without delay. Notably, the first batch of graduates from the online Master’s in Development Practice (MDP) program, an industry-first initiative, also received their degrees.
IIT-B Director Prof. Shireesh Kedare highlighted the institute’s achievements, including securing ₹446 crore in research funding and hiring 55 new faculty members, bringing the total to 751. With 125 women faculty members, IIT-B now leads all IITs in gender diversity. The institute also signed 73 MoUs with 55 universities across 27 countries, fostering global academic collaborations.
These initiatives underscore IIT-B’s commitment to innovation, sustainability, and preparing students for the challenges of tomorrow.
