Knocksense Shorts | Mumbai's vegetable and fish markets to be revamped soon

Markets in Borivali and Jogeshwari will receive a 'mall-like' redesign in the first phase.

Residents of Mumbai will soon have access to modernized vegetable and fish markets with mall-like amenities as BMC has created a plan for redevelopment. Architects have been instructed to redesign the upcoming markets in Borivali and Nawalkar Market in Jogeshwari.

As per the BMC's plan the markets will be set up inside multi-story complexes equipped with 'supermarket' like amenities. These complexes will include facilities such as elevators, CCTV cameras and a designated parking space for the public. Furthermore, there will be designated floors for sections such as non-vegetarian food and fisheries. The vegetables and fruit sections will be kept separated from the non-veg sections and will also have a designated entrance.

Reportedly, there are almost 92 BMC markets all over Mumbai and most of them are in run down conditions. With this in mind, the civic authority has planned to revamp most of the markets of the city.
