Knocksense Shorts | Unique earthworm-based sewage treatment project initiated by Mumbai University
MU's Vidyanagiri complex in Kalina has been chosen as the pilot site for the project.
On route to achieving its target of creating a carbon-neutral campus, the University of Mumbai has launched an earthworm-based sewage treatment project. The said project has been initiated at the Univeristy's Vidyanagari complex in Kalina, as part of the Mumbai Climate Action Plan.
The World Resources Institute (WRI) has played an instrumental role in creating this project, which boasts the capacity to treat 1,200 liters of sewage every hour. The key feature of this project is its efficiency in waste removal, which is up to 90% of Biological Oxygen Demand and touches 80% for Chemical Oxygen Demand.
