In a bid to patch the last mile connectivity of the Mumbai Metro network, a new public bicycle sharing system is soon to pedal in the city. For this, the MMRDA has partnered with MYBYK to station at least 10 bicycles at each Metro station of Line 2A and 7 along the Aarey-Dahisar-Dahanukarwadi corridor. The number will be increased as per the demand and popularity, added reports.
For easy, emission-free connectivity!
The public bicycle sharing system is touted to make Mumbai a public-transport-friendly city. The idea is to introduce an emission-free, green transport system that enables commuters to easily travel to and fro from the metro station.
As per reports, commuters in the western suburbs will be able to avail of a bicycle-on-rent scheme, for up to 15 hours at just ₹30. A sum of ₹2 will be charged for every hour over this limit. For regular commuters, the MMRDA has also launched a 30-day rent scheme at ₹799.
Notably, all pedal-bikes launched under this initiative are GPS enabled and can be easily booked via the MYBYK App. This mobile application will also guide users to unlock the bikes and use them.
Since the cycles will be shared and used by multiple commuters on a daily-basis, wear-tear and breakage will be common. To complete the project, the MMRDA will also be offering dedicated space at the metro stations on Line 2A and 7 for the repair and maintenance of these bikes.
