Monsoon's early arrival drenches Mumbai; above-normal June rainfall forecasted

Mumbai and its suburbs were soaked on June 9, as the southwest monsoon made an early entrance, beating its usual arrival date by two days. While the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted a brief respite from heavy rains in Mumbai for the next few days, IMD’s Chief Scientist Sunil Kamble warned against “above-normal” June rainfall.

While parts of Mumbai did not witness any significant rain activity throughout June 11, heavy showers were reported for a brief period in the afternoon in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region areas of Thane, Kalyan and Navi Mumbai. IMD’s Colaba and Santacruz observatories have already recorded a total rainfall of 118mm and 104mm, respectively, so far this season.

Furthermore, the IMD Officials have raised a Green Alert for Mumbai, Thane, Palghar, and Raigad for the upcoming week. So, from Wednesday right through the weekend, Mumbaikars can expect lightning, moderate to heavy rainfall, and gusty winds in select spots.

As per weather reports, on June 12, Mumbai is anticipating a day with a minimum temperature at 27.99°C and maximum at 29.94°C. As for the atmosphere, humidity stands at 73%, while the wind speed of 73 km/h.
