Mumbai grappled with intense rainfall on Saturday, leading to widespread waterlogging and traffic disruptions across the city. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued an Orange Alert for Mumbai, predicting heavy to very heavy rainfall in isolated areas, alongside orange alerts for Thane, Palghar, Raigad, Ratnagiri, and Sindhudurg districts in Maharashtra’s Konkan region.
The downpour caused Andheri Subway’s temporary closure due to waterlogging, diverting traffic to S.V. Road.
Orange alert till July 15
Low-lying areas such as APMC Market and Turbhe Mafco in Navi Mumbai, along with King’s Circle in South Mumbai, bore the brunt of the downpour. The Mumbai Traffic Police closed the Andheri Subway temporarily due to waterlogging, diverting traffic to S.V. Road. IndiGo Airlines issued a traffic advisory as air traffic congestion soared amidst the weather disruptions.

The IMD forecasts heavy to very heavy rainfall in isolated areas of Mumbai, Thane, and other districts in Maharashtra’s Konkan region. A cyclonic circulation over the city is fuelling the severe weather conditions, with some areas recording over 100mm of rain in just three hours.
As the city braces for continued rainfall, residents are advised to stay vigilant, with temperatures expected to range between 29°C and 24°C. A yellow alert remains in effect until July 15, signalling ongoing weather challenges ahead.
